Who Is Your Best Client?
This post is inspired by one of my favorite business books: Book Yourself Solid: The Fastest, Easiest and Most Reliable System For Getting More Clients Than You Can Handle.
After reading this book and working through the written exercises, I get to spend more time working on the weddings that inspire me and with the clients who “get” what I do. I highly recommend this book.
One of my favorite paragraphs:
“If you’re just starting out in your business, or if you’ve been working in your business for a while but are not yet booked solid, you may be tempted to market to anyone and everyone with the assumption that the more people you market to, the more clients you’ll get. While narrowing down your market to gain more clients may seem counter-intuitive that’s exactly what you need to do to successfully book yourself solid.”
Whether you love luxury beach weddings, offbeat brides, vintage country weddings, destination weddings or gay/lesbian commitments, you want to spend time marketing to those types of clients and events that you love most. Those particular clients or events will always be where you do your best work.
Who were your favorite clients in the past year? What did they all have in common? If you don’t have a business yet, what kind of people do you most enjoy working with at your current job? What is your personal style? Where would you choose to get married or have a vow renewal? The answers are big clues to who your target clients are.
