I started my wedding planning business in 2005 with less than $500 and zero experience with weddings. I DIY’d my business website and printed the first set of business cards on my clunky inkjet printer. I will never forget nervously walking into my first wedding networking meeting (10 minutes late) and having to walk in front of the entire room of seated guests to find a seat. I still shutter at how awkward I felt that day.

Within 4 years, my humble start turned into a six figure revenue event planning business. During the ten years I owned my event planning business, the company won numerous awards including the Knot Best of Weddings Hall of Fame Award and 2 ICON awards. Our weddings were published in more than 20 magazines and on more than 40 wedding blogs and websites. I was featured regularly on local television stations as the entertaining expert (my 5 minutes of fame). During that time, I also opened and managed StudioWed Denver for six years. StudioWed is a co-working space and boutique wedding collective with a typical membership of 30-40 wedding professionals.

with 16 years and 3 businesses in the event industry, Helping others succeed in their dream career of wedding and event planning makes my heart sing.

Fast forward to why I started Planner's Lounge...

When I started my planning business, I was desperate to find any and all information on how to be a wedding planner. This was before social media (gasp!) and there was not much information online about how to get started. After planning more than 200+ events, attending many educational conferences, reading more than 50 business books, working with a business coach, and having met many of my business goals, I craved an online community and resource to connect with other planners and to share my hard-earned knowledge. I had been coaching local wedding planners on the side for a few years and thrived on helping others start and grow their planning business.

After much research and learning about online business, I launched Planner’s Lounge in 2011 as a resource site and community for wedding and event planners to relax, talk, learn, and inspire. Planner’s Lounge empowers wedding and event planners with the tools and resources to succeed including 1:1 coaching, online courses, ready-to-use templates, business resources, and comprehensive educational guides. In 2015, I sold my planning business and the studio to focus on Planner’s Lounge.

I feel incredibly lucky every single day that I have the opportunity to help event planners (YOU!) start, grow, and create their own success in our industry. I’m thrilled that I can give back to the industry that has given me so much.

Knowing that I played a tiny part in the success of others fills my heart with joy and energizes my soul.

Outside of work, I am mom to my awesome teenage daughter and dog mom to my sweet chocolate lab. Flowers bring me joy and Starbucks makes my day. Snow falling feels magical but fall is my favorite time of year. I have a huge soft spot in my heart for animals. I have an obsession with paper crafts, cute office supplies, the Bachelor, and anything to do with The Happy Planner. Colorado is my favorite place on earth and I am thankful every day that I get to live here.

I started my wedding planning business in 2009, right before my first daughter was born. I could hardly believe that my job was to make people's wedding dreams come to life. For 10 years I was honored to work with my couples to create memorable events. In 2013 I founded the Skagit Wedding Society, a networking group for wedding professionals to meet and collaborate on weddings, styled shoots, and to promote Skagit County, WA as a premier wedding destination in the Pacific Northwest. In addition to connecting wedding professionals with one another, the Skagit Wedding Society also produced the annual Skagit Wedding Tour.

In addition to working in the wedding industry since 2009, my background and education are in marketing. I graduated from the University of Alaska Fairbanks with a BA in Public Relations/Advertising in 2003. In 2007 I earned my Masters of Science in Integrated Marketing Communication from Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL.
When I stopped wedding planning in 2019, I put all my energy into growing my content marketing agency to help wedding professionals and other business owners grow their businesses with strategic content.

My career in the wedding industry has been filled with twists and turns and has ultimately brought me back to being the community manager of Planners Lounge!

Hi there!

I’m Amber Peterson

What Brought Me to The Planners Lounge?

During my years as a wedding planner, I was always visiting the Planners Lounge. The articles and tools were invaluable in growing my wedding planning business. In 2013 I started contributing content to Planners Lounge and continued into 2022.

I am so excited to step into the role of community manager! I know the challenges that wedding planners face, and how important it is to have community, resources and support. I am passionate about helping wedding planners create a business that allows them to live the life of their dreams.

Outside of my work, I have been married to my amazing husband for almost 20 years and we have three brilliant and lovely daughters and a sweet little Boston terrier. We love living in the Pacific Northwest and spend as much time as we can enjoying activities like hiking, camping and road trips around our beautiful state.

Some of my guilty pleasures include any TV shows in the 90 Day Fiancé universe and the podcasts that recap them, Tieks shoes (I have 25 pairs), planning my next vacation and wine tasting around Washington.
