What is your typical day like?
I typically start checking my email around 7 am from my bed! Try to get a workout in 3-5 days a week. Then shower and get on the computer at my home office by 10 am. Some days I have client or vendor meetings in person or via Zoom. I tend to eat at my desk, so it’s a working lunch. However, now that the weather is nicer here in Michigan, I am taking the opportunity to get out to run an errand, stretch and get some fresh air! It helps invigorate me to get through the rest of the day, which often goes late into the night! I am not the best at my work-life balance, so it is a work in progress, but I always feel like I have so much to do, even when I am delegating to my team of four, so I need to keep working on this to free up my plate. I am divorced and don’t have children; this is why I tend to work late, which I know is not good for me, and I know I need a mental break too! I recently started a new podcast called “Wedding Weeds,” which can be found on all major platforms. I am working on how to find time to record episodes! Stay tuned! #worklifebalance LOL
How did you get started in the industry?
I have always loved weddings since I was a child, and have always been organized. I knew I wanted to own a business, and since my passion was weddings, I decided to learn everything I could about them and got my certification from Weddings Beautiful Worldwide in 1999. I started my company in April of 1999. I did not intern for anyone. After hours of research on how to set up a business, I just figured things out myself, and the certification courses also helped with that. I have a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in Marketing and a Minor in Travel Agency Management.
What inspires you?
I love looking through pretty much any wedding magazine or blog. I love going to places like Home Goods, TJ Maxx, and furniture stores for décor and design inspiration and watching HGTV.
What are your favorite online resources for your business?
I love looking at Style Me Pretty and The Aisle Planner blog for inspiration. Of course, the knot too!
Aside from wedding and event planning, how do you spend your time?
I love going on cruises! My next one is my second time in the Bahamas coming up in November. This time it is the best of both worlds with a cruise there and back and a 4-night stay at an all-inclusive resort! I enjoy going out with friends, taking in the nightlife, dancing, a cocktail, trying a new restaurant and a good movie, and just chill time at home is relaxing since I am often on the go!
