What is your typical day like?
Every day starts with getting up at 7am and good cup of coffee, that is the time I have for myself. I start work at 8am at my home office. Working as a wedding planner, people think that all you do is smile and be surrounded pretty things. Instead, wedding planning consists of a lot of paperwork, emails, meetings, phone calls, event timelines, wedding budget management, and negotiations with wedding vendors.
I want to give enough attention to my clients and sometimes wish a day had more than 24 hours. But that is what makes it interesting and why I love this job. There are no two weddings or two clients that are the same. They each have different dreams and wishes which makes wedding planning a very dynamic job.
After a busy day of wedding planning, I like to spend time in the evenings with my boyfriend, family, and friends.
How did you get started in the industry?
I had a long-time wish to become a wedding planner. While I studied finance at the University of Economics, I started to develop the idea of opening my own event planning business. Much of my time was consumed by studying and I put that dream aside for some time and got my master’s degree.
After college, I got into the wedding planners academy to learn extra knowledge about the job in addition to the research I had done on my own. When I finished the academy, I started to work on opening my own wedding planning business. It was not easy as I was working at another company at the same time. After everything was done and the wedding planning company started to work, it was all worth it. I can say I’m living my dream.
What inspires you?
My inspiration comes from my clients. They are all different and need a different approach. Finding unique things about them inspires me to suggest design, location, and vendor partners to create the perfect wedding celebration.
I get a lot of inspiration from Instagram, Pinterest, and wedding magazines. Websites such as Green Wedding Shoes, Wedding Wire, and Martha Stewart Weddings give me ideas and inspiration as well.
What are your favorite online resources for your business?
Destination Wedding Details, The Knot, Style Me Pretty, and The Planners Lounge are my favorites.
Aside from wedding and event planning, how do you spend your time?
I love to travel. I will use any free time I have to travel. I work very hard during the year and that is how I reward myself.
