Advice for New Event Planners: Start Small
As a new wedding and event planner, we often think we need to offer a full menu of services as soon as our business launches. This can be a recipe for disaster as a new planner. There are a variety of services that wedding planners offer.
There are tons of logistics and details that go into full-service planning for weddings and events. These logistics and details take time to learn and master.
When you are new to planning, start by offering limited services such as wedding management (often called month-of or day-of coordination services). With your wedding management clients, you will meet a variety of wedding professionals, work at different venues, learn valuable timeline creation and management skills, and master the ins-and-outs of coordinating a wedding day.
Once you feel comfortable with providing solid professional wedding management services, you can expand to offer partial event planning which may include wedding management plus a set number of hours to assist your clients with planning tasks. Then you can move on to adding full-service wedding planning to your menu of service offerings when you are comfortable.
When you compare yourself to experienced event planners in your area, remember that it took them YEARS to get to that level of pricing and service offerings. You will get there, it just takes time and patience to build your business, experience, and reputation.
Not sure how to price your services and what to offer in your wedding planning packages?
