Just Do Something
Whether you are thinking about starting your own business or trying to grow your current business, it’s easy to lose motivation or get stuck. Here are a few tips to help keep you moving towards your goals:
1. Block time in your schedule. Make an appointment with yourself to work on your dream.
2. Reinforce your goal every day. Type it out, print it and stick it on the bathroom mirror. Put your goal as your computer and phone background. Make appointments every week in your calendar with your goal as the appointment name. Make your email password related to your goal so you type it every day. Keeping your goal clearly in sight will give you a motivational nudge every time you see it.
3. Just do something. No matter how hectic your day is, promise yourself to take one small step every single day. If you are too tired to read a chapter in a business book, read one page. If you are too busy to write a blog post, just write down the title. Then when you have an appointment with yourself (see #1), you can accomplish a few tasks and elaborate on the small steps you have taken so far.
Every little step matters. Do something today to get one step closer to your goal.

I seem to get sidetrack and feel stuck. but I’m leaving my job and focusing on my Business
soon.
Congrats Lilieth!
Great advice! Mondays are my days to focus on my goal! I try to only do things for my business. I check emails, write on my business page, announce the “Fan” of the week. I also use this day to network at venues to get my name out. If I don’t have an event on the weekends I will visit venues as well, they are usually decorated for someone’s wedding reception or an event, I find a lot of DIY brides & their families setting up early mornings for an event that will be taking place that evening…I call this my sneak peek days! Good luck everyone!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts Monica!
This was great advice. I already put my goals in my calendar on my iphone but I’m going to start sticking my daily goal on the mirror.
Good for your Tanza! I have a goal posted on my bathroom mirror and it is a great reminder as soon as I wake up.
I am just starting my business, and I try to do something everyday, but sometimes it’s difficult to stay organized with everything you are doing for your business. Does anyone have any ideas that will help me stay focused and organized?
Thank you!
Hi Demarra,
I’m just starting out on my own as well, and like you I sometimes have trouble staying focused. I suppose this advice may only be relevant if you lack office space at the moment, but one thing that helps me to stay focused and productive is changing up my work environment from time to time. Sometimes I have to get myself out of the comfort of my home to get some work done. I get so distracted at home! This might be going to the coffee shop, the library, or using one of the study rooms at a nearby university. Other times it helps me to literally get dressed and sit at my home computer desk, as if I were putting in the hours at any other job.
I know many people can be very productive at home, on the couch, in their pajamas, but that’s not me. I literally have to put myself in the “I’m working” mindset to get things done sometimes.
Anyone else have any advice?
