Is Event Planning Just a Hobby for You?
Do you love to plan weddings and events but aren’t sure if you want to make it your full-time career?
I often hear from people who either aren’t sure they want to make the leap to a completely new career in event planning. If you are just looking for some extra money doing something you really like, a part-time planning business might be perfect for you. You can still enjoy yourself without the stress of having to make a full-time income from event planning and without spending more than 50% of your time learning marketing, business planning, accounting, management, organization, pricing for profit, and other important skills that are needed to run a sustainable business.
Do I want to just dabble in event planning as a hobby OR do I want to build a profitable and sustainable event planning business that supports me?
It is okay to be in either camp but the important thing is to be clear on where you are at RIGHT NOW. If you are just doing it as a hobby for a little extra cash, that is fine. But if you want to make this your career, there are a lot of things to learn about how to become a professional wedding planner.
Your active participation in your own career is what’s going to determine your success more than ANY other single factor.
Sound like a no-brainer?
It’s actually not! A lot of people “claim” to have a career, but what they really have is just a hobby in wedding and event planning. They’re not willing to get truly “engaged” in it – they’re not willing to do whatever it takes to make it successful and sustainable.
Your active participation includes making an investment in your business – it may be an investment of time, focus, effort, and money. But that’s what separates the business owners from the hobbyists.
