Tell us how you got started in event planning
I think I’ve always had the planning gene! I interned with a wedding planner during college which was a great experience and a first peek into the special events industry. After graduation, I worked in corporate events where my planning included meetings, cocktail parties and dinners, and tradeshows for a Financial Consulting firm in Charlotte.
I was missing the creative and emotional side of events though, so I started helping family and friends plan their weddings! After moving back to Atlanta I realized it was a great time to start my own wedding and event planning business and in 2014 I teamed up with my sister and best friend, Natalie, who also shares my love for planning.
What successes have you had in your business in the last six months?
With the help of wedding planner coaching with Debbie and the Planners Lounge, I feel like we’ve really been able to take our business to the next level. We have new branding, a new website, increased our pricing which will increase our profits, and are feeling more confident about how we are moving forward and growing our event planning business.
How has the Planner’s Lounge Mentoring Program helped you and your business?
I don’t even know where to start! The mentoring program with the Planner’s Lounge was one of the best decisions I ever made and it wasn’t an easy one. I worried about money and time and whether or not it would pay off in the long run. Having completed the program, I can look back and say “Yes!” it was totally worth it and I know I will continue to see returns on that investment.
During our first call, Debbie and I talked about my business, my goals, and anything else that I wanted to improve on. She created a curriculum based on those needs and it felt very personal. Each session we would discuss the “homework” and our goals for our meeting and if we needed to focus more attention on something – she was so flexible.
And I can’t begin to tell you about all of the resources she gave me from help with pricing my wedding planning services, processes for onboarding a client, marketing strategies, to the wording of my planning packages. Most of all, the program gave me so much confidence in the work I was doing and for that, I am forever grateful.
Debbie is an expert in the field and is also kind and patient so it feels like you are working with your friend. It was an invaluable experience!
Tell us about you! What do you love to do outside of your work?
I LOVE to dance. On the other side of the spectrum, I love activities that are quieter like crafting, reading, or even meditating! And, I love spending time with my husband, our son, and our 2 dogs!
