What is your typical day like?
No day is ever alike, and that’s the beauty of being a solopreneur! I stay flexible and versatile with my work schedule to allow room for change and adaption. To get the most out of my week, I start working on Sundays as I do a few ‘housekeeping’ tasks such as updating my weekly goal list, working (or updating) the website, and brainstorming on content marketing for the week (one of my favorite creative exercises!)
From Monday through Friday, I wake up at 7:30am, and start my day with a hearty breakfast prior to starting my work day. As I’m savoring my fluffy pancakes or fried eggs, I catch up on social media and prepare my daily posts.
From 8:30am until 1:00pm, I work at our family business then start working on interior design and event design projects from 2pm onwards. I’ll admit I trickle in a few e-mails here and there during my work hours at the family business!
On Mondays and Tuesdays, I focus on event planning and coordination work with clients, creative partners, vendors, contractors, and collaborators. This work often entails procuring furnishings & decor; updating timelines; researching and meeting with creative partners; developing technical drawings; and much more. On Wednesdays, I update my workflows and templates according to new learning experiences in the field and other insightful educating material I’m reading at the time. Throughout the past year, I’ve ensured I dedicate ample time to workflow and system management.
The best is often left for Thursdays and Fridays when I’m feeling the most energetic and creatively inspired. I wear my creative hat for two days as I dive deep into creative design for both, events and interiors projects. For these two days my sole focus is to continue evolving the project’s design through the different design stages – conceptual design, schematic design & design development. Although each design stage involves different space planning and visual exercises, they all interweave artfully to produce a cohesive experience.
How did you get started in the industry?
I’m leveraging my 7th year as a Certified Interior Designer with experience in the Interior Design and Architecture industry in New York City. During the past few years, I worked with renowned firms to elevate brands for high-profile clients including hedge funds, luxury hotel brands, resorts, restauranteurs, developers, and entrepreneurs. During that time, I started providing creative direction and logistical planning for art installations, editorial content, and smaller soirées in New York City, Florida, and Washington D.C. It didn’t take long to realize I would be bringing my artistry to event design and planning as well. I just LOVE the fast-paced environment; the hand-on approach; and experiential value we bring to engaged couples and clients.
What inspires you?
In a world filled with a plethora of inspiration sources, I remain loyal to my sources of inspiration stemming from avant-garde fashion, exotic nature, eclectic and modern furniture design, art installations, and modern architecture. While I find a ton of inspiration in our backyard in New York City, I follow these sites for weekly inspiration, Italian Bark, The Lane, The Blonde Abroad.
What are your favorite online resources for your business?
The Refine Community for Wedding Planners and The Rising Tide Facebook Groups.
Aside from event planning and design, how do you spend your time?
When I’m not creating, I enjoy time with my boyfriend and immediate family.
I often destress at long dance parties with my favorite Dj’s and artists in Brooklyn and wherever I can get myself to at the time. If I’m not sipping on a tropical cocktail by a palm tree under the shining sun, then I don’t know how else to call the latter vignette my ‘ideal vacation’.
Claudia, thank you so much for taking the time to share your story and a day in your life. If you are an event planner and would like to be featured, download our questionnaire today and email it to us along with a photo.
