What is your typical day like?
I’m a bit of a night owl so my day starts between 9-10AM. Whether I work at home, at the library, or at the local Starbucks, I start the day off by checking my email and then jump right into tackling my to-do list for the specific day.
I like to eat or pack an easy-to-make homemade meal for lunch so I can take a quick break before getting back at it. I usually end the day between 6-7PM when my husband comes home so we can have dinner and spend quality time together.
How did you get started in the industry?
My creative nature, skills as a former project manager, communicator enthusiast, and being a detail-obsessed organizer made wedding and event planning extra appealing to me. But it was planning my own wedding from start to finish that sealed the deal!
I loved planning so much that it only made sense for me to take wedding and event planning courses and jump full swing into the planning industry. I became a certified wedding planner and started my own business. Entrepreneurship runs in my family and I’ve always wanted to run my own company.
What inspires you?
From Pinterest boards and social media to wedding podcasts and business blogs, I find inspiration all over the web. My favorite resources for my business include Instagram for event design, Timeline Genius to create wedding timelines, Honeybook to streamline business processes, the Weddings for a Living podcast to become a better business owner, and Planner’s Lounge to help grow my business,
I’m also inspired by the city I live and work in. Evanston is filled with students, small business owners, and young families. The community is high-energy, positive, and promotes growth and success of entrepreneurs.
What are your favorite online resources for your business?
Planner’s Lounge
The Rising Tide
Timeline Genius
Weddings for a Living
Aside from wedding and event planning, how do you spend your time?
I love reading, especially fiction books. There’s nothing like getting immersed in new creative worlds! I also love traveling with my husband. My favorite places that we’ve been to in 2017 include Rome, Austin, and Denver. When I have time, I like to indulge in a spa treatment (or two) to relax.
Maya, thank you so much for taking the time to share your story and a day in your life. If you are an event planner and would like to be featured, download our questionnaire today and email it to us along with a photo. If you aren’t sure about being featured, take a few minutes to read how it can help your business.
