What is your typical day like?
I work out of my home. I actually have three part-time jobs and I work out of my home for all three jobs – secretary and bookkeeper to my husband’s business, office manager for another company, and then my wedding planning business. I usually eat lunch at my desk. My day typically ends by 6:00 pm but I work anytime I need to. I am an empty-nester so having these three jobs are a blessing!
How did you get started in the industry?
I started my wedding business after I planned my daughter’s wedding which was in March 2010. After planning her wedding for an entire year, I found I had a passion for wedding planning. All of my daughter’s vendors said I would make a “perfect wedding planner” after working with me and seeing how organized I was for my daughter’s wedding. I decided to pursue it and tried to work as an assistant to other wedding planners. I found they were not really using me much, so I decided to go to a local college to get certified as a wedding planner. Then I started my own business on my 53rd birthday! I don’t really advertise, it is more of a “referral business.” I was also featured on the Today Show with Marlo Thomas and David Tutera regarding starting my wedding planning business at the ripe old age of 53! I have also published a wedding guide that is sold nationwide.
Where do you find design inspiration?
I am not a designer; I am more of a planner. If I need to give inspiration to my brides on wedding ideas, I refer to magazines, the web, and Pinterest. I love Pinterest. It was not around when my daughter got married and I think it is a great resource for brides planning their weddings.
What are your favorite online resources for your business?
