5 Key Pinterest Tactics for Wedding Planners
Gone are the days of that cork board on the wall! Today Pinterest is the new home of all things visual and creative. Pinterest has been calling themselves a Visual Discovery Tool. Their plans for the future sound pretty far-fetched but… these major changes are right around the corner.
It won’t be long before your Pinterest account knows what you like, what you buy, what you cook, and where you shop!
These artificial intelligence style tools are tracking and predicting how we’ll behave while using the platform. This means that each and every single person who uses the Pinterest platform could ultimately be having a completely custom experience.
What does that mean for wedding professionals?
It’s time to catch up. It’s time to really understand how to use Pinterest to capture major traffic for your website, start getting seen as a trendsetter, and actually receiving leads and bookings from this tool.
Before we dig into the top 5 things you need to know about Pinterest, here are a few myths we need to debunk right now:
Pinterest is user-led. It always has been and it always will be. It’s basically the world’s biggest photo album. But it’s an album anyone is allowed to add pictures to. You have the power to put into the album the images you want the world to see.
You’re all aware how viral images and videos work right? Well, Pinterest does exactly the same thing for products, designs, and services for Wedding Professionals. It was MADE for us! But we’re still too mad at it to use it!
So let’s stop that right here and right now! It’s time for you to get your Pinterest house in order.
1) Think like Google
If you’ve done any work on the SEO portions of your website then you know there are popular keywords that your potential clients are using to find you! Well, guess what? The same is true for Pinterest. Users are no longer looking at your perfectly curated boards. They are searching for the products, styles, and inspirations they want to see. They are typing in words to help them find you. Develop 10 highly searched terms in Pinterest and use them on every single one of your pins for the history of forever.
2) Optimize Your Boards and Profile
If your board descriptions don’t have search terms in them as well, Pinterest can’t use that information to sort out what you’re offering them. You need to use very specific search terms to describe what the boards are about.
Pro tip: You don’t need a thousand boards. Three great and full boards are going to get you further than a bunch of useless boards to manage.
3) Get them to Click
Don’t give away the whole kit and caboodle when you pin an image. Create Pinterest sized pins that tell them what to expect when they click on the link. If you give too much, they’ll save it and move on. If you don’t give them enough, they’ll scroll on past. But if you give them just enough to get interested in your article or services, they’ll click and browse.
Spend the time to create a few vertical pins for each of your blog posts. I promise it’s worth it!
Pro tip: Use a tool like Canva for finding the right vertical size and overlapping words.
4) It’s Not About the Followers
Since Pinterest is being used as a search engine and less like a social media platform, people are no longer actively following you. Followers also no longer mean you’ll be getting traffic to your blog or website. Saves (repins) do. When someone takes an action to save your pin, they show Pinterest and their friends that “this is a good pin”. Pinterest shows it more to other people who search for that item. And your pin shows up again and again.
So if you design a creepy clown wedding inspiration shoot and a goth loving bride pins it to her Goth Wedding Board, every other goth wedding searcher is likely going to see it. No one has to follow you to consume your content.
5) Convert to a Business Account
You’ve likely been blogging for a long time now and have content you can put on Pinterest. Be sure to apply for Rich Pins and a business Pinterest account. With the upcoming advances in the Pinterest platform, you’ll want the Pinterest for Business account to run ads, sell products, and get into the custom search feed.
Have you seen the new green checkmarks on Facebook? Don’t be surprised if they start popping up on Pinterest too. You’ll need to have Rich Pins in order to be sure your pins will be seen and shared.
Pro Tip: If you’ve been working on email marketing or list building, Pinterest is a great way to get more eyeballs on your opt-ins and sign-ups for your lead captures!
By using these 5 major tips and creating a strategic plan for consistent pinning, you’ll begin to see major improvement in the traffic to your website and client conversions You’ll even be able to truly affect wedding trends worldwide by adding your photos to the world’s largest photo album. Learning how to drive on the superhighway of visual discovery has the potential to radically change your business in an incredibly impactful way.
