What is Your Event Planner Personality?
Every event planner has different strengths and weaknesses. There are things that are important to me that you don’t care about at all. There are clients who are a perfect fit for you who would drive me crazy.
By learning more about my own personality, I have a much better understanding of my strengths and weaknesses as an event planner. By reading and learning about other personality types, I have improved my relationships with my clients and with other vendors.
You can read about the 16 personality types on Personality Pages website. For a mere $5, you can take the test and find out your personality type.
My personality type is ENFP. Becoming aware of these details has been so helpful in my business and when working with clients. For example, here is part of the description of my personality type:
ENFPs are basically happy people. They may become unhappy when they are confined to strict schedules or mundane tasks. Consequently, ENFPs work best in situations where they have a lot of flexibility, and where they can work with people and ideas. Many go into business for themselves. They have the ability to be quite productive with little supervision, as long as they are excited about what they’re doing.
Because they are so alert and sensitive, constantly scanning their environments, ENFPs often suffer from muscle tension. They have a strong need to be independent, and resist being controlled or labelled. They need to maintain control over themselves, but they do not believe in controlling others. Their dislike of dependence and suppression extends to others as well as to themselves.
I almost fell out of my chair when I read that. Finally, a clear description and explanation for my intense dislike of strict schedules, mundane tasks and managing/controlling people. This also explains why I don’t work well with clients who try to micromanage me or the planning process. I encourage all of our readers to take the test and gain insight to your own personality.
Take the test then share with us what your type is!

So interesting. I took it as well and it says my type is INFP-The Idealist. Although I don’t fall entirely into it’s description, I definitely fit a lot of it and totally think understanding yourself and the people you work with will greatly help in a job that is so reliant on personal relationships.
INFPs generally have the following traits:
Strong value systems
Warmly interested in people
Service-oriented, usually putting the needs of others above their own
Loyal and devoted to people and causes
Future-oriented
Growth-oriented; always want to be growing in a positive direction
Creative and inspirational
Flexible and laid-back, unless a ruling principle is violated
Sensitive and complex
Dislike dealing with details and routine work
Original and individualistic – “out of the mainstream”
Excellent written communication skills
Prefer to work alone, and may have problems working on teams
Value deep and authentic relationships
Want to be seen and appreciated for who they are
Thanks!!
Amber, I can totally see how this is you. There are so many positive traits in that list that describe you which is why your clients are so lucky to have you!
