The Downside of Multitasking
Being an entrepreneur can be rewarding, challenging, exciting and exhausting. Whether you own your business or work for a small company, it can be overwhelming and paralyzing when evaluating everything on your to-do list. There are many possible paths you can take to learn, expand and grow your business or career. Often there are so many tasks we could be working on that we don’t know where to start.
What is the one way to ensure none of those tasks and ideas are successful?
Trying to do everything at once.
Multitasking is what many of us do best with our brides and clients but it’s not always the best when we are starting or growing a business or new career.
If you are working on a new website, training an associate, doing 3 photo shoots and taking design classes in the same month, you won’t be able to do your best work on any of them. It is okay to take a step back and focus on one major project until it is complete. By focusing your mental energy on one big career task at a time, your results will be much better since your mental and creative energy aren’t divided among four other projects. You will also find that the task will take less time and you are likely to be much less stressed. It’s okay to say no if you aren’t ready to take on a new project or idea right now.
