Quick Tip: Toasts & Wedding Cake
Before it’s time to toast and cut the wedding cake, check for the following:
1. Are the bride and groom’s champagne flutes filled? These should be filled and given to the bride and groom prior to the start of any toasts. If the bride and groom have special toasting flutes, they may be sitting on the cake table and were not filled when the rest of the champagne was poured for the wedding guests.
2. Are all the important guests in the room before toasts begin? We want to make sure the bride, groom, parents and bridal party are in the reception room before the DJ or band announces that it is time for toasting.
3. Are all the important vendors present? Are the photo and video wedding professionals set and ready to go before the toasts and cake cutting begin? Is the band or DJ ready with the appropriate background music?
4. Is there a cake knife on the cake table? If not, ask the caterer or kitchen staff for a cake knife that can be used. If they do not have a cake knife, ask for their nicest knife just for the bride and groom to cut the first slice of wedding cake.
5. Is there a small plate, napkin(s) and two forks next to the cake? Some couples may prefer to feed each other with their hands but it’s nice to have a plate, forks and napkins available.
Is there anything else you check on prior to the toasts and cake cutting? Share with us in the comments.
