Marketing your Business after the Wedding is Over
After a wedding is over I am EXHAUSTED! It can be very easy to toss the couple’s file on my desk and move on, but I realized I was missing a lot of opportunities to market my business. So, in addition to my planning checklist in each file, I have my post-wedding marketing checklist. Until I have completed all the items, I do not allow myself to file the couples folder.
Here is a list of the things that I do post-wedding:
Although it can be tempting to file everything away and move on to the next wedding, take the time to do a few follow-up tasks. It can help propel your business forward and have a very positive effect on your marketing efforts. The most powerful marketing is a good review or word of mouth referral from a satisfied client. So make sure you are keeping your business at the top of your past clients minds even after their wedding.
Today’s post is a guest post from Amber Peterson. Amber is the owner of Cheers Wedding & Event Planning in western Washington. Great post! Thanks!!
Our company used to send out 1-year anniversary cards, but we found out that every once in a while, the couple was separated before that year was up, and were embarrassed after we sent the card. Do you have any suggestions for ways to avoid an error like that? I try “Facebook stalking” sometimes, but that doesn’t always work, if their pages are set to private.
I know many planners who still send out anniversary cards to clients. I don’t think you should stop doing this just because a couple may have broken up. If they do, you simply remove them from your list.
I just started my wedding planning business I would like some help

I am just starting out in the Wedding Planning Business, l found this really helpful and something l will use.
What sort of gifts would you send the couple after the wedding, as l thought of sending them something prior to the wedding i.e some sort of pre-wedding pamper for the bride,?
Thanks
Gemma
Thanks for your comment Gemma. Things like champagne, gift cards, gift baskets, and custom luggage tags are all popular gifts.
I LOVE this post because all of these things are almost always overlooked!
Thanks Heidi!
I agree that it is important to request the use of photos from the couple and the photographer but I highly recommend doing this before the wedding! I have a photo clause in my planning contract so that potential clients know up front that I will be asking to use their photos. I also have a separate agreement for photographers so that they know I won’t misuse their photos and that I will always give them photo credit. Since implementing both of these I find it much easier to obtain photos.
Great suggestions Tanis!
