Entrepreneurship or Employee – Which is Best?
Would you rather have your own event planning business or work as an event planner for an employer? It really depends on what you want your life to look like. Honestly, that is the key to deciding if you want to work in corporate or go out on your own. For example, when working for someone else, you have the luxury of a steady paycheck and benefits but you are also tied to their schedule, their objectives and the events they want to do. You are also locked in to working a minimum set number of hours per week and someone else decides when and if you get a raise.
If you have your own business, you don’t have the steady income and you have to wear many more hats since you are running the business as well as planning events. But you get to have the freedom of entrepreneurship, deciding when and who you work with and your brand is all about you. You have to pay for your own benefits and taxes but you also get to set your own schedule and decide when you want to charge more for the work you are doing.
What other advantages and disadvantages are there of working for yourself versus working for someone else? Share with us why you chose to work for someone else OR why you have chosen to start your own event planning business.
