Dealing with Copycats
How would you feel if you found another event planner’s website that had copied the exact wording or photos from your website?
Unfortunately, many experienced professional planners have had this happen. In any career, especially creative careers such as wedding planning, copying is never acceptable. Many of us spend hours upon hours working with professionals to craft our brand, website and wording to fit our unique business.
Here are a few tools you can use to check for copycats:
Copyscape – Copyscape provides a free plagiarism checker for finding copies of your web pages online. They also offer professional solutions to protect your website. You can download free plagiarism warning banners to use on your own site.
Tineye – Tineye will scan the web for unauthorized use of the photos you upload to their gallery. This is most helpful for photographers but can also help event planners if you find that others are stealing your event photos.
If you find that someone has copied your information or photos, take the high road and contact them personally. Even if they copied, there is no need to embarrass or “out” them on your blog or in social media.
