Day in the Life of a Wedding & Event Planner with Melanie Tindell

What is your typical day like?
Typically my work day starts around 9:00 am after our childcare arrives for our two boys. We have an office just a town over, so I am fortunate to have a short commute. I start my day by looking at my emails and seeing what tasks I need to complete for the day, then move into working on new business tasks if needed, like sending proposals or following up with inquiries. I typically will each lunch at my desk working unless I have a meeting scheduled with a vendor. In the afternoon, I work on client work like completing timelines, following up with vendors and clients, or working on design packets.
I end my day around 4:00 pm, so I am able to get a walk in before going back to mom mode.
How did you get started in the industry?
I had a career as a healthcare interior designer for about ten years before starting my business. I also had 5+ years of non-profit event planning from organizing St. Baldrick’s head shaving events in Ohio and Denver. I worked with Sage Wedding Pros (now Be Sage Consulting) on a business plan before even opening my doors.
What inspires you?
Oak + Honey specializes in eco-friendly events, so I pull a lot of inspiration from nature, personal goals in sustainability as well as my past career as a designer.
What are your favorite online resources for your business?
I love anything from Michelle with Be Sage Consulting. https://besageconsulting.com/
When I started out, I really used information from Planner Lounge to get support.
I also love Facebook groups like the Refined Portal Users.
Aside from wedding and event planning, how do you spend your time?
I spend a lot of time outside with my husband and toddler boys playing, hiking and exploring. I also love trying out new restaurants in town.
