What is your typical day like?
I have two young kids, so I wake up and get them ready and off to school, then jump immediately into work at 7:45am. I typically start with answering emails and doing computer work (creating layouts, editing design boards, etc.) When it’s a wedding week, depending on the day, I print out all timelines, seating charts, and spend some time reviewing everything to make sure we haven’t missed anything. On other days, I have meetings with clients scheduled, final walkthroughs, vendor confirmation calls, among other things.
Midday, I pick up my kids from school, bring them home, and continue working during their nap/rest times. In the evenings, my husband and I tag team the kids, and I often hold evening zoom planning meetings with clients.
How did you get started in the industry?
I’ve planned and executed events since high school- always just for fun. Throughout the years, friends and family have asked me to help with their weddings, and since I’ve always LOVED them, I would gladly help.
Then, when a career change was in order, a former colleague asked about helping out with her wedding. I put together a proposal, and after our meeting, they convinced me that I should open up a business. I took some classes, created a website, and now it’s been 7 years!
What inspires you?
I take inspiration from everyday life more than anything else. I believe in taking ordinary life events, interests, and moments and creating something based around them. If a couple loves a certain sport, does a particular activity together, etc, I want to use the things that bring them joy to create weddings that feel like a celebration of them and their love.
What are your favorite online resources for your business?
I love Google Docs, Gmail templates, and benable.com!
Aside from wedding and event planning, how do you spend your time?
I spend almost all of my time outside of work with my family. We love to go on “adventures,” which could be anything from visiting a new ice cream spot, to going away for the weekend to a lake or beach we’ve never been to. I love sports in general, but specifically football and tailgating (I’m a Clemson alum), so getting tickets to any kind of football game on a weekend off in the fall tops the list for me! And I will never turn down going to a vineyard or a brewery with friends.
