What is your typical day like?
As a wedding planner, each day can vary hugely depending on whats going on. Typically, I begin my day fairly early doors, heading out into the countryside near where I live to walk my two dogs (one is a working cocker spaniel and the other is a wild mix of 22 different breeds! We rescued her from a pretty dire situation but she’s gorgeous) When home from walking, I then like to head to the gym when I can. Working weddings is pretty physical and you can never be too strong. I then head down to my office just outside of the city. I share this office with my partner Jake and although a little unconventional, it works well for us! I then set about my tasks for the day, I love a pen and paper list and try be as efficient as I can with my tasks. In a typical day I might be doing client calls, supplier calls, site visits, design work or supplier sourcing. It really does depend! I’ll admit when I’m working and really into a task, I find it difficult to break off for lunch so sometimes I’ll have something quickly at my desk and if I’m quieter I’ll eat something more substantial. Although, that being said the dogs come to the office too so they need a quick walk around the block every few hours which is a good excuse to stretch my legs! My working day doesn’t have an official end time, I often work later a couple of days a week as that’s when I find my clients are free to talk. Often I do client calls and new enquiry calls into the evenings which works really well.
How did you get started in the industry?
I took a degree in Events Management when I left school and loved it. The university I attended was small and they were keen for us to do placement years. I spend 12months living in a hotel for mine, and then took a further 3 month internship at a luxury country estate which sole focus was weddings. The hotel taught me a lot of great hospitality foundations, but it was the country estate which lit my soul on fire for my love of weddings. I spent subsequent years working in different aspects of weddings and hospitality before setting up on my own in 2018 – I’ve never looked back and for me, covid just spurred me on and showed me that sometimes you really have to fight for what you want.
What inspires you?
I love to travel and I love interiors. I take a lot of inspiration from both of those things for my design work. I really am a people planner though and love getting to know the clients both individually and together, that’s where my biggest inspiration for each wedding comes from. I spend time understanding them and learning what they do and don’t like. The great outdoors is also another inspiration of mine, finding beauty in the stillness and in nature is really beautiful.
What are your favorite online resources for your business?
I love Instagram, I think it’s amazing how visible you can be in that space and I love looking at all sorts of different accounts for inspiration – from home cooks to high end caterers to interiors to garden accounts, I find them all really helpful and inspiring.
Aside from wedding and event planning, how do you spend your time?
I love to go out to eat, I’m such a foodie and thankfully my partner Jake is too ! We love heading out somewhere remote into the countryside and finding a not too trodden path to walk, and then stumbling across a lovely cosy pub with the dogs.
