What is your typical day like?
I love this question! My day starts off with exercise I walk every morning. I listen to some great podcasts during my walk. I come home have breakfast, and get ready for my day. The night before I always look over what the next day is going to be like. I put everything away that night, I organize my desk so that I have a nice fresh start the next day. I block off Wednesdays for my personal day. I save this day for personal appointments, lunch with friends, a little shopping, etc. I also keep Sundays for family days and Friday nights I save for a date night with my hubby. I have found if I do not “pre-set” my days and give myself and my clients boundaries I will not have a personal life I love this business so much I could work 7 days a week, however, I have learned this is not healthy for myself, my family nor my clients. We have a darling office downtown where I work most days.
How did you get started in the industry?
After acting as Chairperson for the Bakersfield Women’s Business Conference, I was encouraged by my fellow board members and several event partners to pursue event planning and execution. This experience inspired the launch of Fairy Godmother. I realized there was a real need for a service that takes an event from mayhem to magic!
My Mom was very social and used to love to throw amazing parties, I learned the art of taking excellent care of people and creating memorable experiences from her. My Dad on the other hand was a banker. I was in banking for 20 years prior to starting Fairy Godmother. I learned how to start and run a business from him. How to look at your RTO (return on investment) He also taught me how important it was to treat people with kindness, no matter what their title is.
What inspires you?
My family, who support all of my crazy ideas. My son who I work to show him how hard work and kindness pay off. My team! They inspire me to be the very best I can be and my clients I do everything I can to ensure their day is truly magical.
What are your favorite online resources for your business?
I love to read. I have a personal goal to read one book a month. I challenge myself to attend 2-3 conferences a year. I have met Colin Cowie and love his book. I also met Preston Bailey and went to his workshop and his book is also terrific. David Tutera, I am super excited in just two months I will be attending his workshop. I also am a member of the Association of Bridal Consultants and will be attending their conference in November.
Aside from wedding and event planning, how do you spend your time?
Vacations are my favorite, time with my family I cherish. I would like to travel more. I will be traveling to Paris in Spring 2023 and I can’t wait! I love to shop, spend time with friends, get a facial, read, and seeing a good movie.
