What is your typical day like?
My day starts by 6am spending some quality time in prayer and studying the Bible. Afterwards, I get prepared for the day. My work day begins around 9am. I start with my to-do list and decide on tasks to focus on and how much time to spend on each task, such as social media, emails, follow up, and research.
I spend most of my week working from home. Apart from my event planning company, I own an event floor plan company where I create floor plans for event planners, corporate firms, and brides.
My morning is usually focused on checking and replying to emails, checking what’s new on social media, updating my social media pages, sending proposals, and designing floor plans. In a situation where there is a client or vendor meeting to attend, some of these tasks are postponed until afternoon or evening.
I focus my afternoon and evening on follow-up, research, and marketing. I end my day by 5pm and mostly spend my time in the evening researching and drawing up plans on how to get better and bring more to the table as a wedding planner and event designer.
On weekends when I don’t have an event, I join one of the top event planning companies here in Lagos as an external event coordinator. This has helped me stay current on happenings in the event industry, connect with people, meet with lot of vendors and improve on my skills.
How did you get started in the industry?
I started with organizing an event for my family and planning sports camping events back in higher institution as a chess player. My background in purchasing and supply personnel has helped create positive vendor relationships, along with negotiation skills and purchasing rights for my clients.
To start my event company, I enrolled in an event planning and decoration course. After months of training, I volunteered with the company. After 12 months of training and volunteering service, I started my event company. My first corporate event was for a product launch of a manufacturing company and my first wedding planning and decoration was for a friend’s wedding, I got referrals through that, which has kept me going till now.
What inspires you?
My inspiration comes from God, nature, and things in my life such as the colors and pattern of my bedding and wallpapers in my room. I am also inspired by Pinterest, Instagram, Wedding Style Magazines, Preston Bailey, and Colin Cowie books.
What are your favorite online resources for your business?
Planners Lounge, Bridal Guide, Book More Brides, and The Knot have been great resources for my business.
Aside from wedding and event planning, how do you spend your time?
I am a lover of God. I spend most of my free time fellowshipping and I do try to get as much sleep as possible. I relax with movies every Sunday evening and I spend some time attending seminars, networking, visiting friends and family.
