What is your typical day like?
Each week is different for me. I start each day by checking my emails and responding accordingly. I have been trying to schedule at least one venue meeting for a site visit or asking other vendors to meet for coffee to get to know them on a more personal level.
I try to accommodate a potential client’s schedule and will do consultations to meet their requests, though I prefer mornings or evenings. I set aside time in the morning to catch up on all my weddings and reach out to couples to stay connected with them, especially those I do not hear from as frequently. A few evenings per week, I work on marketing my business, using social media, and doing research to expand my business.
I love owning my own business. Right now, I am currently teaching two days per week. I also have four children so I make sure to have quality family time with them each day. Family time is usually early afternoon until they go to bed. If I do not have a wedding or event on the weekend, I devote most of it to my family as well. Sometimes it is tough trying to balance it all, but in the end, the hard work and time I have put into establishing The Wedding Planner has been totally worth it!
How did you get started in the industry?
Wedding planning found me. After planning my own wedding, I thought, “I should do this for a living.” After assisting family and friends with their weddings for a few years, I took The Bridal Society’s wedding planning course and left that weekend feeling motivated. I knew it was time to make my business official. Thus, The Wedding Planner came to be with a lot of hard work, perseverance, and dedication.
My husband has been instrumental in encouraging me to pursue my dream. He always says to me, “Hun, say, ‘when’ not ‘if’ please.” I was also inspired by a quote I now have in my office that reads, “She believed she could, so she did.”
Where do you find design inspiration?
Pinterest, wedding magazines, HGTV Magazine
What are your favorite online resources for your business?
I love Planners Lounge. I am a member of The Bridal Society and because of this I have access to an amazing wedding planning forum.
I have read many great articles on Huffington Post that offer advice to wedding planners. There are also great articles on there that support our industry and I love to share them with clients.
