What is your typical day like?

My day starts around 5:30am with devotion and prayer. I don’t do any other tasks until I have done devotion. I work from my home office most days. Some days I may go to LaMadeleine or Starbucks to work. I normally start and end my day with emails. I spend about 25 minutes only responding to important emails. In the evening, I take a little more time with email.

During the work day, I am contacting clients, vendors, or potential new clients via phone, Skype, or email. Two days a week, I  meet with clients in person or conduct venue tours. A few evenings each month, I attend networking events or mixers.

I have two grown kids, 21 and 18, however they live at home; one is in college and one is a graduating high school senior. In the evening around 6pm, is family time. We share about our day and have dinner. I may work another 2 hours then I’m in bed around 9 or 9:30pm.

How did you get started in the industry?

I have no formal education in the event planning industry. I am self-taught. I hold degrees in criminal justice and human resource management. I decided to become an event planner after planning my 5-year vow renewal. I had such a great time and made so many new contacts that it was easy to start my own business.

What inspires you?

My children inspire me every day. I see how proud they are of me and it keeps me going. I love having their support.

I also read a lot. Some of my favorite blogs and websites are Endless Entertainment, Planners Lounge, Event Planning Blueprint, and Event Manager Blog.

What are your favorite online resources for your business?

Entrepreneur.com is a huge resource that I use. I also read Huffington Post and Planning Pod as well.

Aside from wedding and event planning, how do you spend your time?

I love to read and shop. I love spending quality time with my children either traveling, shopping, or just have a family movie night.
