What is your typical day like?
I am your typical early riser that adores COFFEE! As a budding entrepreneur one year into owning my wedding planning business, I still work a full-time job. The early morning is a perfect time to respond to emails and work on marketing material before I leave for my nine-to-five job. Starting my day reviewing ideas for my business helps me throughout the day to think of other creative ideas to help clients and grow my business. During my nine to
During my day job, I keep a special notebook by my side for any inspiration that arises. Financially during this start-up period, it has helped a lot to maintain a full-time job. I am fortunate that my employer is also an entrepreneur and encourages me every day to pursue my dreams. My employer’s support stretches from encouragement to flexibility in my hours to meet with clients.
Lunch hour at my day job consists of prepping for evening meetings with a newly engaged couple or other wedding vendors. I find the more prepared I am, the smoother the meeting goes. I like to have a structure for my meetings but the ability to flow naturally as questions arise from the bride and groom. The love that they show for each other always touches my heart and reminds me that it’s such a blessing to be able to assist two incredible people on their wedding day.
In the evenings, I like to relax and unwind with a big cup of tea and a good book or documentary! If I’m not careful I can spend too many hours on Netflix watching all their new documentaries. My recent favorite is a documentary titled the “Seven Five” – definitely check it out!
How did you get started in the industry?
I graduated with my BA in Political Science. In University, it was my dream to work on political campaigns behind the scenes creating events. After several meetings with local political representatives, I realized that a lot of positions, apart from being a politician, are on a volunteer basis. Let’s just say that I love my boutique coffee and was not willing to give that up in the mornings for a personal budget cut, so I pursued other options working in event planning.
A few months later I came across a job posting for a wedding internship program. I got the position and instantly fell in love with the wedding industry! There is no better feeling in the world than to help a couple on one of the most important days of their lives. While working with a couple throughout the planning process, you get very close and the bride and groom almost become family. At all my weddings, I can be seen tearing up as the bride walks down the aisle.
Where do you find design inspiration?
Call me crazy, but I love looking at print magazines. Yes, they are not environmentally friendly but I LOVE them all the same! I am a very visual person and enjoy cutting out my favorite photoshoots and placing them on a mood board. It’s almost as though physically holding the image in your hand brings you closer to the world where it was taken.
Having new experiences every day gives me inspiration. This can include going for a walk, visiting a farmer’s market, or browsing through an art gallery. The more you see and experience, the more you will be inspired. Go for a walk and see how it changes your perspective!
