Trip Down the Aisle
It is a moment that is played out time and time again in novels and movies. The double doors open to reveal a stunning woman in a white gown who is locked arm-in-arm with the person who will walk her down the aisle to the man anxiously awaiting his bride. As wedding planners, this tradition can become just that, played out. It has become a part of our work and just another event to check off the wedding day timeline. Of course it is understandable that we have to always be thinking ahead to the next part of the wedding to keep the wedding schedule on track, but we cannot forget the importance of this tradition for the bride as she begins her journey to start a life with the man she loves.
I can recall my own anticipation the day I married my husband. Peeking around the corner of the back of the church to see our wedding party make their way to where I would soon be standing. When the time came for me to enter the church, my Dad took my hand and with the smile he has always given me, pushed through the church doors to reveal rows of friends, family and my best friend, standing and waiting for me. Walking down the aisle I remember wanting to stop and talk to each person who was there to thank them for coming all while practically running into my fiancés arms and keeping the smile from bursting off of my face. Each bride and groom has their own story about their steps towards the person they said “I do” to. As wedding planners, it’s our job to help them write this story and not let it get lost in our piles of lists and schedules.
As with any job, we enter into a routine of phone calls, appointments, checks and balances on a daily basis. However, our line of work is assisting two people create their own personal fairy tale wedding. Whether your couple wants to be parachuted from a plane to the altar or sing a song until they reach their soon-to-be-spouse, it is our job to make it happen. Always keep in mind that while this may be your hundredth time cuing the music to play and guests to stand, it is the first time that the couple is entering into this lifelong promise together. Everything that has happened in the past – all of the worries of how the day will come together – are left behind, as two people become united at the end of the trip down the aisle.
