What is your typical day like?
I am an early riser, juggling my responsibilities with two young children, so my day starts by focusing on them, ensuring they have a typical breakfast and are ready for school. Once I’ve seen them off, I transition into work mode at my home office, where I primarily handle client responses within Aisle Planner and attend to new inquiries.
Much of my day is spent communicating with other vendors, reviewing proposals, and crafting design decks to showcase my comprehensive planning and design services to clients. For lunch, I often opt for Trader Joe’s salads paired with a cold brew, which provides the necessary energy boost to carry me through the afternoon.
My workday typically ends around 3 p.m. If time allows, I squeeze in a pilates class or hop on my Peloton for a quick workout. As a solo entrepreneur, running my business entails wearing multiple hats—I function as the social media expert, bookkeeper, marketer, and more—which keeps me occupied.
During the off-season, I take advantage of the downtime to reflect, ensuring that my workflows are optimized and my business strategies are on point.
How did you get started in the industry?
I have a background in the hospitality industry, particularly in the wine sector, where I’ve gained experience managing tasting rooms, organizing wine club events, and working in fine dining and sales roles. However, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, I was furloughed from my full-time position in wine sales. During that time, I took a year off, welcomed my second child, and contemplated returning to the workforce. Instead of returning to the typical Monday to Friday, 8-5 job, I desired more creative freedom, control over my schedule, and the chance to spend more time with my family. Then, a close friend of mine, Samantha, the owner and creative director of Zest it Up, invited me to start assisting with weddings. That opportunity sparked something within me, and I launched Heyday Weddings & Events within a year. Reflecting on my journey, my background in hospitality played a pivotal role in getting me to where I am today. It’s said that assisting couples on one of the most important days of their lives takes a server’s heart, and I couldn’t agree more.
What inspires you?
I draw inspiration from many sources, finding creativity in everything from the changing seasons to the aesthetics of different venues. Each design I undertake is approached collaboratively, considering my couples’ desires and how their vision aligns with the venue and overall aesthetics. I love incorporating input from other vendors to enrich the design process further.
I often read blogs such as Green Wedding Shoes and Style Me Pretty when seeking inspiration. These platforms offer a wealth of ideas and showcase the latest trends in wedding design. Exploring other designers’ work is enjoyable, provides valuable insights, and sparks fresh ideas for my current projects.
Aside from wedding and event planning, how do you spend your time?
I indulge in various hobbies that bring me joy and relaxation in my free time. I have a deep passion for hiking, traveling, camping, and cooking, which allows me to immerse myself in nature and culinary adventures.
Additionally, I’m an avid true crime enthusiast. I often get engrossed in addicting podcasts while tackling household chores like folding laundry.
Family is at the center of my life, and as a proud fire wife and mother of two boys, our household is always bustling with excitement and adventure. Whether embarking on outdoor escapades or cozying up at home, every moment spent together is cherished. We reside on the picturesque Central Coast of California, blessed with abundant local attractions. From spontaneous day trips to Santa Barbara to indulging in wine-tasting excursions and enjoying the beach’s sandy shores, we make the most of our surroundings and create lasting memories together.
