Should Your Business Appear Bigger Than It Is?
Wedding and event planners often ask if they should use “I” when talking about their business or if they should use “We”.
Use “I” when talking about and marketing your business in these scenarios:
1. You are a solo business owner and are always the lead planner with clients. If you are a wedding planner and it’s just you selling yourself, using the corporate “We” could have a negative effect. Most brides and grooms are seeking relationships and personal connections with their wedding professionals.
2. Clients hire you specifically because of your reputation and the connection they have with you.
3. You are the brand behind your company.
Use “We” when talking about and marketing your business in these scenarios:
1. There are multiple lead event planners at your company who take on their own events.
2. You plan weddings and events with a team of assistants who work behind the scenes during the planning process and on the day of the event. Also, it’s clear to your clients that this is how your business works.
3. You are in the process of adding more event planners or team members. If you are planning to grow your business beyond a one person operation in the near future, start using “We” now.
Whether you choose “I” or “We”, be sure to keep consistency throughout your website and marketing materials. If you really aren’t sure, you can reword it so that you don’t use either – instead of “We offer full service wedding planning and design…” you could say “ABC planning company offers full service wedding planning and design.”
