Jewish Weddings 101 | What Happens Under the Chuppah

  1. Being of the Jewish Faith and witnessing many a Jewish Wedding – just wanted to give you a heads up on the Modern Traditional Jewish Wedding. The above information is for more conservative Jewish couples and Orthodox Jewish couples. The Conservative/Reform Jewish clients have to have a Chuppah but the bride and groom may not do any circling and the rings do not have to be plain. Most of the Jewish Weddings I have done, the bride has a typical diamond ring. This was and may still be the tradition in many parts of the world, but there is a large percentage that are less conservative and may only want to incorporate a few of these Jewish traditions.

The details with the circling and the symbols of the 7 is not necessarily traditional for contemporary Jewish couples. Your couple can tell you how religious they are and how they would like their ceremony performed. Simply ask them and their Rabbi or Cantor how traditional they would like the ceremony to be and what elements they would like to include.
