What is your typical day like?

My day usually begins at 7AM with yoga and exercise. I am in office by 10AM and check my inbox to respond to any client/vendor queries. We have a team meeting every Monday at 10:30 which sets the tone for our short/mid-term goals and creates our high level work plan for the week. Wedding planning is a seasonal business and our days also differ during off season and peak season.

In off season, we spend a lot of time on planning, strategy development, and lead generation. Come wedding season, our days are packed a lot with client meetings, vendor meetings, site visits, executing designs, and getting work done

How did you get started in the industry?

I graduated from a leading B-school in India and was working with a top financial company. I always had the passion of starting something on my own. While working with Bank of Punjab, I planned a personal event myself and a friend suggested I do it professionally as he was really impressed with my work. I ignored his advice initially but the idea really struck and I started my wedding planning company after couple of years. Later, my younger sister also joined me and we run this business together now.

Where do you find design inspiration?

I find inspiration for my designs in everyday life, as clichéd as it sounds it is true for most of us designers. The best part about being a designer is that you don’t have to put in extra hours in finding that one amazing inspiration. You look at a small piece of paper and you imagine huge sets being developed with that shape, or you see a huge architecture piece and you imagine a small prop being inspired from its motifs. My inspiration could be a small key chain or a huge architectural building. I am observant, and I do my research.

Traveling adds another element to it, you travel and you have new things to drive your inspiration from. So travel and keep your eyes open.

What are your favorite online resources for your business?
I follow the Planner’s Lounge blogs as they are a great resource for specific wedding-related topics and priceless professional advice. I also follow theknot.com and stylemepretty.com as they are always updated and have the latest trends.
