What is your typical day like?
Every morning I check what’s new on the wedding blogs, pages, and forums that I follow. I then follow up with emails/phone calls and do some other daily tasks. I usually set aside part of my day to update my Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest business pages. From there, I work on my blog entry for that week.
My afternoons and evenings are typically set aside for client and vendor meetings. I also do my very best to attend and volunteer for events in my area. My friends and family know that I am always out exploring some kind of event. I believe that by attending these events, I am able to bring more to the table as a wedding planner.
How did you get started in the industry?
I originally took exhibit design, which got me interested in special events because of the actual set up at the event. I decided to take Special Event Management from there, and was offered a position as an assistant event planner. At that company, I planned children’s birthday parties for a few years and absolutely loved it.
One day I decided that I wanted to expand my knowledge in event planning and enrolled in a wedding certification course. After I was finished the course, I volunteered for an assistant wedding planner position. In all honesty, I was hooked after that first wedding.
Where do you find design inspiration?
I find design inspiration from many blogs, websites and magazines. Some of my favorites are Style Me Pretty, The Knot, Offbeat Bride, Yeg Wed, HuffPost Weddings, Blush Magazine, Brides Magazine, Wedding Wednesday on Facebook and Twitter, and my new favorite twitter hashtag #yegweddinghour that FO Photography started.
What are your favorite online resources for your business?
I love the Planner’s Lounge. There’s always good advice to be found here. I am also a fan of Book More Brides. I find Stephanie and Jeff have some really good marketing advice for the wedding industry. I also feel I benefit from Melanie Duncan’s webinars.
Nicole, thank you so much for taking the time to share your story and a day in your life.
