What is your typical day like?
Before I head into the office, I start my day with a short meditation and some espresso shots…not always in that order! When I get to the office, I start by answering emails, then working on the booked weddings we have. I usually finish my day with meetings or inventory organizing that needs to be done.
After work, I try to make it to the gym and go home to cook dinner, but my evening frequently ends up being a dinner out with some friends. Most of the time, I am home and in bed by 9:30pm. Gotta get good sleep for those crazy wedding weekends!
How did you get started in the industry?
When I was 15, my best friend’s mom worked for a catering company, and occasionally let us help out. I really liked it, but I thought I would like the planning and decoration side more. I went to college for musical theatre, and after a few injuries, I had to redirect my career path. I thought event planning would be perfect.
I started working with a small event planning company in New Mexico, and the owner took me under her wing. I moved up the ranks quickly, and grew to love it so much! We developed a plan for me to open a branch of her company when I moved home to Denver, but when she got the wonderful news she would soon be having a baby girl, we had to switch up our plans. She ended up helping me launch my company, Right as Rayne, in Denver, and soon decided to sell me her wedding planning company so she could spend more time with her daughter.
Before I knew it, I had two locations for my planning business! Everything kind of fell into place and I got really lucky. I started promoting my business around Denver and also posted as much as possible in Facebook groups that could bring in clients. I spent time networking and mentioning my business to servers, customers at Starbucks (my other job), and just getting the word out however I could.
Eventually, the word about my new event planning business spread like wildfire. We just opened our 3rd location in Houston, Texas, and have recently welcomed Jamie Flower (from her previous company Jamie Flower Weddings) to run our Colorado branch. I am crossing my fingers business keeps up, and that the future is bright!
What inspires you?
I love looking to the client for inspiration. For me, it may be the 10th wedding I have planned for that season, but for them, it is so much more than that. It is really important to create an event that represents them!
What are your favorite online resources for your business?
All Seated is my favorite. I feel like everything else I can accomplish without a program, but I have never been great at room diagrams and layouts without some extra help!
Aside from wedding and event planning, how do you spend your time?
I am a theatre nerd to my core! I still try and get on stage or see a show whenever business allows!
