What is your typical day like?
Expect the unexpected. That could be the motto of every event planner. Most event planners agree that there’s no such thing as a typical day.
A day in the office means a lot of hours online, on the computer, and on the phone with vendors and clients. I spend a lot of time sourcing out contracts, finalizing schedules, creating floor plans, researching and choosing event locations, arranging support services for events, negotiating agreements with suppliers, and creating budgets.
For a day out of my home office, I am typically running event-related errands and holding relationship-building meetings with venues and vendors such as photographers, caterers, and florists. Idea development is part of the job too.
When I am not planning events, I am a film-maker and am often on location shooting.
How did you get started in the industry?
I started my business because I love weddings and have a passion for planning weddings and events. I have planned, coordinated, and hosted many weddings and events. I have such a passion for helping people bring together a vision, seeing it through to the end, and being able to sit back and see the joy, laughter, and love it brings. With my experience, organizational skills, attention to detail, creativity and ability to manage situations.
I have completed a wedding and event planning certification, attend regular conferences, and do research to stay up to date on current trends.
I graduated from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria with a major in Theatre And Performing Arts and a specialty in film making. I have worked at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, planning many large scale events.
Where do you find design inspiration?
I find my inspiration when I am alone in the office. Preston Bailey and Karen Tran inspire me. I also find inspiration while traveling, through music, on Pinterest and Instagram, and in catalogs and magazines.
What are your favorite online resources for your business?
My favorite online resources for business practice is certainly the Planner’s Lounge, of course. Your teaching and advice are priceless. I also enjoy Weddings for a Living, Yasmine Robles Design, and the Nigerian Wedding Market by Stella Anokam. Some of my vendors are very inspirational as well.
